Ingredients

- 2 cups fresh or frozen black raspberries
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 2 cups heavy cream
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1/2 cup black raspberry preserves (optional, for swirl)
- 1/2 cup white or dark chocolate chips (optional)
Instructions
- In a saucepan, combine black raspberries, sugar, and lemon juice.
- Cook over medium heat until berries break down and mixture thickens, about 10 minutes.
- Strain through a fine mesh sieve to remove seeds and cool completely.
- In a bowl, mix the cooled berry puree with heavy cream and whole milk until well combined.
- Chill the mixture thoroughly in the refrigerator.
- Churn in an ice cream maker according to manufacturer’s instructions.
- Optional: fold in preserves or chocolate chips at the end of churning.
- Transfer to a shallow container, cover with plastic wrap, and freeze until firm.
- Let sit 5–10 minutes before serving for perfect scooping texture.
Notes
Use deeply colored black raspberries for best flavor and color. For a smoother texture, do not skip straining the berry mixture.
